Faculty of Performing Arts Update

We have had an eventful and exciting start to Term 4 in the Performing Arts Faculty!

First, congratulations to all involved in the Years 7 and 8 Musical, Cinderella, who played to two very enthusiastic, sold-out audiences. The stage was awash with colour and energy, as the cast captivated all in attendance with their delightful singing, excellent dance numbers and engaging story telling. The cast performed with gusto, and were commendably supported by students in the backstage crew, on the sound and lighting desks, and in the role of make-up artists and designers. Congratulations to Mr Dylan Licastro and his entire team for a wonderful production.

The VCE Theatre Studies class had their externally assessed Monologue Examination, which was the culmination of weeks of preparation, research, script analysis and rehearsal. The class did themselves proud with their performances of their selected monologues from Tom Wright’s Picnic at Hanging Rock and Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull.

The Year 10 Theatre Design and Performance class also held their performance of Streuth in the Ballroom last week. The 14 class members collaborated to creatively interpret and present a hilarious parody of a murder mystery, where anything that can go wrong, does go wrong. The class worked admirably as directors, actors and designers for every aspect of the production.

Auditions are currently under way for the 2020 Senior Musical, Disney’s Freaky Friday. The production will again see St Catherine’s and St Kevin’s students take to the stage for three performances next year: 30 April, 1 and 2 May.

We are also looking forward to seeing the Showcase of Speech and Drama students on Friday 15 November at 4.00pm in the Ballroom. Students from Years 5 to 10 presented their pieces to an examiner from London on Wednesday this week and will be performing selections from their Trinity College London exam pieces in this showcase. For students interested in enrolling in these lessons in 2020, more information about the course can be found here.

The final Performing Arts event of the year is the prestigious House Arts performances. These will be held in the Senior School Hall on Thursday 5 December at 6.00pm. This is a free, non-ticketed event and there is already plenty of anticipation about which House will be awarded the Michael Bond Trophy for 2019!
