We are moving

Classes are going on as usual but the classrooms in Barbreck are looking very different as we approach the final day of Term. At the end of the day on Friday 22 June, 2018, the doors will close in the current building for the final time.

Classroom areas, corridors and every available space are slowly being filled with boxes. Staff are using every available opportunity to sort out classroom equipment and pack it up ready to be shifted to the new building and to prepare for an efficient and effective start to Term 3 … in the new building.

Their generous efforts and energy are gratefully recognised and highly appreciated. On Wednesday 18 July, the doors of the new building will be opened to welcome all the Barbreck students of 2018.

What an exciting occasion it will be!

We will always deeply appreciate the planning, work and thought that has been invested in the new building and look forward to officially recognising and thanking the many people involved for their time, effort, contributions and enthusiasm for completing the project so smoothly and efficiently. The move to the new building comes with huge excitement and anticipation!

Final Day of Term 2, 2018

Families are reminded that as gazetted in the calendar, the final day of Term 2, 2018, is a full day with the usual dismissal times of 3.15pm and 3.30pm. Final Assembly is between 8.45am and 9.40am. As always, parents are welcome to attend.

Casual Clothes

All Barbreck students are invited to wear casual clothes – comfortable, warm and suitable for school tasks and activities on the last day of Term 2.

Students are asked to please bring their lunch and morning snack in a disposable bag with no school bags on this day.

ELC Four year old – Year 4 Father/Student Event

Wednesday 30 May saw the Senior School Hall filled with laughter, chatter and fun! Held for the first time this year, the four year old to Year 4 Father/Student event was very popular with more than 120 attending. Everyone enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea followed by a shared drawing activity. Alex the Incredible, a highly talented performer, entertained us all with some incredible magic tricks. Many of which are still being talked about by our younger students.

Thank you to all the fathers who could attend and to the organisers, Stuart Galbraith, Meredith Taylor and Annabel Bowden, who ensured that everything was so well organised and fun for the students and the parents.

Year 5 Camp

The Year 5 students recently returned from the 2018 ‘Camp Gundiwindi’ experience. We were delighted to receive many compliments about their manners and self management skills. It’s a good time to note that St Catherine’s students are often applauded for their personal carriage and demeanour by members of the public. Whether it’s during or after excursions, special events or school camps we frequently hear how politely and respectfully the girls conducted themselves.

Manners Matter

From a book entitled Why Manners Matter by Lucinda Holdforth, the following quote is offered for contemplation:

Manners are a civil mode of human interaction. They matter because they represent an optimal means to preserve our own dignity and the dignity of others.

A focus on manners is a major emphasis in the Barbreck classrooms, playground and in general. Demeanour, eye contact, using people’s names, courteous replies, listening and conversational skill building are warmly endorsed and encouraged.

There is much to learn about manners and general carriage. Helpful reminders and positive reinforcement from adults fosters positive growth in these important areas. We thank parents and family members for working with educators to equip each girl with a solid base of skills to give them a polite, respectful manner towards others, as well as understanding the need for self-respect.

Bags and Key Rings

We all love decorations and colourful items, however parents are asked to note that each student should only have one tag per school bag. Some bags currently have more tags than actual items inside!
