From our Head of Junior School

There is a feeling across the community that Term 3 has flown by! It has certainly been a busy and rewarding term, filled with opportunities for our students to shine.

On the sporting field, girls represented the School with determination and spirit across Cricket, Netball and District Athletics. A particular highlight was our Hockey team’s remarkable effort in reaching the State Finals – an outstanding achievement given that only two members of the team play competitive hockey. Snowsports also saw record involvement from our Junior School girls, including five Prep students this year. We hope to see Snowsports continue to grow into next year.

This week, we hosted a Grand Final Celebration Day where students came dressed in their favourite team colours. It was a privilege to welcome AFL players Calshar Dear (Hawthorn) and Jagga Smith (Carlton), who ran a football clinic for Years 3–6 and shared insights into life as a professional footballer. It was a memorable moment for many of the girls. Congratulations to Bella and Issy in Year 3 for organising the day, which also raised funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

In the performing arts, our musicians and choirs delivered an inspiring performance at the Music Gala, held at the prestigious Melbourne Recital Centre. This event was a testament to the dedication of our students and music staff, and a joy to share with our community. Another special highlight was Special Persons’ Day, where students welcomed someone important to them into their classroom, from a three-year-old cousin to a much older grandparent (best not to say how old!). The day was filled with enthusiasm and connection, making it a memorable community occasion.

Last week, we saw our Year 5 students run their mini businesses as a part of their integrated unit. The girls were incredibly excited to apply their learning to a real life scenario. The entrepreneurship and business savvy marketing approaches were in full flow. It was a great day with incredibly successful learning taking place.

We also acknowledge changes within our staff community. We farewell Dr Lena Wintermantel, our psychologist, and thank her sincerely for her care and contribution. We look forward to welcoming Stacy Pianko as our School Counsellor in Term 4. We also extend our warmest wishes to Annie Taylor, who, after maternity leave, has made the decision to resign. Annie has been a valued member of staff, and she will be deeply missed.

We congratulate our students and staff on a successful and fulfilling Term 3, and wish all families a safe and enjoyable holiday break. I will start mine at the MCG on Saturday, watching Collingwood take on Brisbane. Hopefully, I’ll be wearing my Collingwood scarf proudly on the first day back after the break!
