Term 1 Sports Wrap Up

It was a huge term of sport for all our students to engage in as our sporting stars hit the ground running with a fantastic first term.
GSV Weekly Sports
Term 1 provided students with the opportunity to choose a weekly sport of either Tennis, Softball or Volleyball. With recent changes in GSV this was the first time in 20 years St Catherine’s have been involved in the weekly Volleyball competition. With many girls jumping on the bandwagon. We had over 235 students participating in the GSV Weekly sport competition.
A huge congratulations to the below teams who played their hearts out all season long as they qualified for the GSV Finals.

GSV Carnival Sports
After weeks of rigorous training, our diving team finally had their first competition of the year at the preliminary carnival. Our divers had a fantastic day, finishing in 4th place in the prelims, which qualified us for the Division 2 Diving Championship carnival.
The Division 2 Championship carnival was a thrilling event. Our team put in a commendable effort, finishing 4th overall.
Seniors placed 5th Inters secured 3rd Juniors finished 7th
Remember, being a diver is not just about making a splash – it is about making the right kind of splash!

After a tough preliminary carnival, our swimming team finished in 3rd place against some formidable opposition. This impressive performance meant we qualified for the GSV Division 1 Swimming Carnival for the first time in a while.
The highly anticipated Division 1 carnival took place on 19 March. We witnessed incredible performances from each and every individual and team who represented the pale blue. A special shout out goes to the Year 7 Medley team, who managed to break the GSV record!
This phenomenal day at the carnival saw 20 St Catherine’s students qualify for the GSV Swimming Finals Night—an incredible achievement! A standout moment was the 50m Freestyle, where four St Catherine’s swimmers competed in the same race, showcasing the depth of talent in our squad.
It was a night to remember, with our Year 7 students delivering exceptional performances, including record-breaking swims and outstanding victories. Congratulations to all the girls involved, we are so proud of you!

Engagement Sports
Triathlon
St Catherine’s School athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 GSV Triathlon, held on Sunday 23 February, at Altona Beach Foreshore. Competing against top schools from the GSV, our students showcased their endurance, teamwork, and determination across both team and individual events.
Team Highlights:
- Junior Teams: STC Junior 1 secured an impressive 6th place (46:55.5), led by Isabelle Byrne, Coco Thomas, and Anna Roosenburg. STC Junior 2 placed 16th, while Junior 4 finished 19th, demonstrating the depth of talent in our junior division.
- Intermediate Teams: A huge congratulations to STC Int 3 (Coco Lutz, Carla Martuccio, Charlotte Roe), who took out 1st place in the Intermediate Team event with a fantastic time of 41:07.0! STC Int 2 also had a strong showing, finishing in 6th place, with Int 4 rounding out the division in 13th.
- Senior Teams: Our Senior athletes put in a strong effort, with STC Srn 4 finishing in 5th place (44:23.4) and STC Srn 2 securing 10th place.
Individual Standouts:
- Junior Individual: Emma Hessell placed 31st, followed closely by Chloe Deane-Freeman (33rd) and Zoe Katsambanis (39th).
- Intermediate Individual: Vera Zeng had a solid performance, finishing in 28th place with a time of 50:24.2.
A proud moment for St Catherine’s and congratulations to all our competitors, and we look forward to building on this success in future events!
