Celebrating Students’ Success

In Barbreck, our students continue to impress with their talents and hard work. From academic achievements to musical milestones and sporting victories, our students are making remarkable progress. I am delighted to share some recent accomplishments of our Barbreck students.

Sunny Xu’s Musical Success

Sunny Xu, Year 6

Sunny Xu, one of our outstanding students, has earned the AMusA (Associate in Music, Australia) Diploma from the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB). The AMusA Diploma is awarded to individuals with exceptional skills in musical performance and music theory. Sunny’s achievement is even more noteworthy as she received this Diploma before completing Junior School. We are proud of her musical accomplishments.

Academic Excellence in ICAS

Last term, many students from Years 3 to 6 participated in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) in Mathematics, Science, and English. These competitions attract academically strong students from Australia and more than 20 countries worldwide.

Several of our students earned credits, distinctions, merits, and participation awards in these competitions. Notably, Emily Wang, a Year 5 student, achieved a High Distinction in Science, placing her in the top 1% of participants. This is a significant achievement, considering the competition’s high standards.

Alexandra (Alexi) Kusumah’s Gymnastics Achievement

Alexandra (Alexi) Kusumah, Year 5

Year 5 student, Alexandra (Alexi) Kusumah recently made us proud with her remarkable performance at the Victorian Gymnastics Championships. Alexi achieved second place and received a trophy in the individual all-around open-age category (11 years and above).

Alexi’s impressive scores of second on the beam, fourth on the bars, and sixth on the floor showcased her exceptional talent. Additionally, she was part of her club team, the Melbourne Gymnastics Centre, which secured first place overall in the open-age category. Alexi’s dedication and talent in gymnastics are truly commendable.

Regional Athletics Success

At the recent Regional Athletics Competition at Casey Fields, eight of our Barbreck students qualified for the State Championships at the Lakeside Athletics Track.

Notable performances include our 11 Years Relay Team finishing first with a time of 57.77 seconds. The Team included Taylor Lee, Allegra Gavilan-Bongiorno, Sienna Yu, and Imogen Brownjohn. The 10 Years Relay Team secured second place with a time of 1.02.12. The Team included Sienna Xu, Lola Parker, Abigail Chan and Missoni (Missy) Byrne.

Imogen Brownjohn also excelled in the 11 Years Long Jump, winning the event by jumping a distance of 4.51 meters. These achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of our students. I wish them well for their events at next week’s State Championships.

Division Athletics

These are just a few examples of the achievements of our Barbreck students. They invest time and effort to enhance their abilities, all with a positive spirit. We are proud of the students mentioned here and of all our students who strive for improvement.

As we celebrate these accomplishments, let us extend our support and encouragement to all our students as they continue their journey to personal achievements.
