Barbreck News: Beyond Boundaries Camp Program

Our Junior School is proud of our Beyond Boundaries School Camp Program as a key element of our holistic educational approach. The Camp Program empowers our students to expand their horizons, nurture resilience, and embrace independence beyond traditional classrooms.

At its core, this Program fosters resilience and independence, encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones within a secure and nurturing environment. Through unique learning experiences guided by experienced mentors and dedicated staff, our students further develop their social skills and bolster their self-confidence. They learn to rely on their own abilities, show initiative, and become self-reliant, all of which are invaluable life skills. Importantly, they also have a lot of fun!

Last week, our Years 5 and 6 students enjoyed a four-day camp at Camp Marysville, 90 minutes from Melbourne. During the camp, the girls enjoyed canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, bike riding, and bush skills, promoting teamwork and problem-solving. Importantly, the Camp also provided opportunities for the girls to connect with their peers across both Years 5 and 6 – strengthening existing bonds and creating new friendships.

The experiences at Camp Marysville profoundly impacted our students, fostering camaraderie, environmental awareness, and sustainable practices. Thank you to our Barbreck staff Ms Kirrilly Wootton, Ms Sandra Ching, Mrs Jodie Bacon, Miss Fiona Wardlaw, Ms Ilse Johansen, Mrs Jenny De Nardis, and Mr Tom Crebbin. Their dedication and commitment played an instrumental role in ensuring the Camp was a success despite the rain and challenging weather conditions.

Looking ahead, our Years 3 and 4 students will embark on a camp adventure at Camp Sunnystones in Bacchus Marsh, promising outdoor exploration, strengthened friendships, and life skill development.

Additionally, our Year 1 and Year 2 students eagerly anticipate their Beyond Boundaries experience. After-school hours will be filled with icebreaker games, team-building activities, and creative challenges, followed by a delightful dinner at our School’s Mary Davis Café. Year 1 students will return home for the evening, while Year 2 students will prepare for their school sleepover.

The Beyond Boundaries Program remains a highlight of our students’ educational journey at St Catherine’s School. We eagerly anticipate sharing more exciting experiences and stories as the Program continues to unfold.
