Although the School year has only just started, St Catherine’s rowers have been training exceptionally hard throughout the holidays.

The Senior and Intermediate rowers began the year with our annual Rowing Camp at Nagambie. The Camp provided a great opportunity for our squads to come together and really challenge themselves on the water. They worked hard to improve technically and continued to push each other to be the best they could be.

The Camp was a great success and has certainly provided our Senior and Intermediate rowers with a great foundation to kick off the racing season. Our Junior rowers commenced training again in the last week of the holidays. They have hit the ground running, getting straight back into the swing of things.

Last weekend saw all our Junior, Intermediate and Senior crews in action. The Intermediate and Junior crews braved the wind on the Barwon River at the Morongo Regatta. They raced with great determination and courage.

The regattas throughout the season provide a valuable opportunity for our crews to further develop their skills and learn how to compete and perform at their best.

Well done to all the St Catherine’s Junior and Intermediate crews on some great racing and congratulations to the Year 9 Davey Crew that were victorious, taking out the A Final in the Year 9 Division 1 Quad event.

The Senior Crews were challenged by the wind, rain and cold at the Wendouree Ballarat Regatta. However, they took it in their stride and put their best foot forward. Both crews raced well, producing strong performances.

The Fearless Girl took out their Heat and placed third in the A Final of the Schoolgirl Division 2 8+. The MMXXI was successful in winning both the Heat and the Final in the Schoolgirl 8+ Division 1 8+.

We look forward to watching our crews continue to progress over the coming weeks with Head of Schoolgirls only five weeks away.

The Junior and Intermediate crews will be back in action on the Barwon River again this Saturday, at the Firbank Regatta.

Best of luck to all our crews this weekend.

Miss Brigette Carlile, Head of Rowing
