CASE Ocean School Program Innovation Award Winners

Congratulations to Year 10 students, Georgia Hennessy, Mille McIntosh, Olivia Hargrave and Jessica Paterson who were successful in winning the Innovation Award for the Challenge X component of the CASE Ocean School Program, which they attended during the school holidays.

Over the course of two weeks, the girls designed an innovative solution to an ocean sustainability problem. Their project combined protecting coastal areas from erosion by manufacturing a sand groyne from recycled lumber to stop offshore drift, protecting habitats as well as houses, with an inbuilt wave energy generator to feed back into the Council.

The girls designed the product, had discussion with an engineer to refine it, create a viable business plan and model, and presented it to two guest judges who work in marine sustainability in Cairns.

The CASE Ocean School Program forms part of St Catherine’s extensive global partnership program. Students have opportunities to broaden their school experience and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Within the CASE Program, students experience an all-encompassing STEAM experience including marine biology, ocean ecology, cutting-edge research, and technologies.
