From the Classroom – Year 2 – Persuasive Writing

This term in writing, the Year 2 girls are learning the nuances of persuasive writing.

So far, the students have been exposed to the text structure required to persuade their audience.

The girls were given a topic and discussed each statement to decide if they agreed or disagreed with the issue. This allowed the girls to gain insights into the power and influence of an argument.

As we explore persuasive writing in greater depth, 2T will examine the importance of ordering arguments effectively to ensure maximum impact.

The girls will learn that it is powerful to bookend the two most convincing contentions. The students will also learn that in order to add credibility to their argument their opinions must be validated with:

  • Reason
  • Evidence
  • Facts, or proof

The girls are already demonstrating their skills in conveying a persuasive argument to convince others of their points of view. We look forward to sharing more of our learning with our School community soon.
