Barbreck News – Mindfulness

Since the introduction of The Resilience Project into the School community, we have explored the benefits of practising gratitude and empathy as part of our daily routines.

It is great that community members are connecting with our students through learning the associated language and benefits of the Resilience Project program. We are always grateful when conversations happen at home that consolidate what the girls are learning at School.

This week’s resources from The Resilience Project explore the benefits of mindfulness.

Mindfulness is our ability to be calm and present at any given moment.

We practise this by slowing down and concentrating on one thing at a time.

Thousands of studies have shown the proven benefits derived from practising mindfulness in your day, including reducing stress, reducing rumination, increasing memory, increasing cognitive function, and achieving physical health benefits through improved immunity.

Looking to add more mindfulness to your day? Mindfulness can be practised through meditation, yoga, flow states, and daily activities such as cooking.

To learn more about Mindfulness view Part four of The Resilience Project Series here

I encourage students, siblings, parents, grandparents and our Barbreck staff to try practising mindfulness over the coming weeks. For wellbeing resources and support information, visit The Resilience Project.

School Spirit

Next Tuesday afternoon, our Barbreck girls will be involved in a Spirit Tunnel to support our District Soccer and Netball representatives as they prepare to represent St Catherine’s in the District Carnival on Wednesday 25 May.

The Spirit Tunnel is a new tradition for Barbreck, involving all girls from Prep to Year 6, creating a human tunnel to cheer for and encourage our district representatives prior to carnivals. During the Spirit Tunnel, our girls sing the School Chant. The Chant can be found on page four of the Barbreck Student Record Book and is also provided below.

We hope parents can help their daughters learn the Chant over the weekend, in preparation for our Spirit Tunnel send-off on Tuesday.

Nil Magnum Nisi Bonum guides us true,

We are St Cath’s through and through.

We are here to do our best,

We are not like all the rest.

Colours of gold, blue and grey,

We play fair and lead the way.

St Cath’s, St Cath’s, Yes we are!

Razzle, dazzle, near and far.

Ray, Ray, Rah!
