Barbreck Voices: From our Year 5 Class Representative

Year 5 Class Representative, Ms Anita Wong and her family.

How many children do you have?

I have two children. A 13-year-old boy in Year 7 and Alicia, Year 5 at St Catherine’s.

What Year level are you a Class Representative for?

I am currently a Class Representative for Year 5.

What made you volunteer for the position?

Our family only joined St Catherine’s last year in Year 4. Alicia had a really good experience fitting into the School.  St Catherine’s teachers were caring and students were welcoming, so Alicia felt at home quickly and started learning straight away.

We also felt really fortunate to have met a group of wonderful parents; in particular, the Class Representatives who were extremely helpful in helping us to manoeuvre into a brand-new system. This year, I would like to have the opportunity to offer my help to those who are new to the School and hopefully make them feel welcome as I did last year.

What are your main goals for this position in 2022?

Aside from offering my time to help act as a gateway of communication between the School and the parents, I am also hoping that being a Class Representative will continue to develop my sense of community with St Catherine’s and join Alicia’s journey for the years to come within St Catherine’s.

Why is volunteering important?

Aside from being actively involved in Alicia’s school years as she continues to develop both academically and socially, I also wish to set an example to my children about the importance of volunteering in the community,

Why is St Catherine’s the best school for your daughter?

St Catherine’s is a very well-rounded school with an excellent reputation for academic excellence. Our family has great respect for the School’s Values in emphasising Integrity, Curiosity, Perseverance, Empathy, and Gratitude. We also selected St Catherine’s because it is an intimate school that genuinely focuses on individual teachings.

Can you share something interesting about yourself?

The one thing people should know about me is that I never take myself too seriously.
