Barbreck News – The Resilience Project – Wellbeing for our School Community

Throughout 2022, we will be working closely with The Resilience Project to support the wellbeing of our School community.

Our School Values of Gratitude and Empathy are cornerstones of The Resilience Project (TRP), and we are excited to further highlight and embed these Values into our everyday lives.

The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience.

Our Partnership Program consists of online presentations and weekly lessons for students, professional development for staff, and a Parent and Carers Hub, which includes digital presentations.

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing the Parent and Carers Hub with you. The videos are five to 10 minutes long and will walk viewers through the key pillars of resilience:

Gratitude

Empathy

Mindfulness

You will hear stories and be introduced to activities to show how these strategies can support our girls’ learning and development, and also support you as parents and carers.

This program further strengthens our School’s Wellbeing program, weThrive: Wellbeing@St Catherine’s.

The first presentation in the series is available now to view here. It provides an overview of TRP and Co-Founder, Mr Hugh van Cuylenburg, shares a personal experience about his sister’s battles with mental illness. Please note the presentation contains a story about an eating disorder that may be triggering to some viewers. Please consider this before watching. Additional wellbeing and mental health resources are available from the TRP Support Page.

I will be in touch fortnightly to share the program with you, including research and wellbeing activities to integrate into day-to-day life.

Resilient Youth Australia Survey

An important component of The Resilience Project program includes students in Years 3 to 6 completing the Resilient Youth Australia student survey commencing, 29 March.

Resilient Youth Australia has surveyed more than 350,000 Australian school students aged eight to 18 years old, over recent years. The survey is voluntary and anonymous and collects data on the self-reported resilience and wellbeing of students, providing valuable information to assist us to maintain a positive culture of wellbeing and resilience.

Please notify me or your daughter’s classroom teacher, if you have any queries regarding the survey, or would prefer that your daughter does not participate.

weThrive: Parent Wellbeing Platform

In the Blue Ribbon last week, our Director for Student Wellbeing, Ms Merran O’Connor shared resources on building resilience, compiled by a range of psychologists. This can be found on our new weThrive:Parent Wellbeing Platform on mystcatherines. Archived parent resources on a range of topics are also provided.

I look forward to sharing wellbeing information and updates over the coming weeks and throughout the year.
