From the Head of House – Langley Templeton’s Good Friday Appeal

The Good Friday Appeal is an annual fundraising activity on behalf of the Royal Children’s Hospital. Traditionally Langley Templeton supports this most worthwhile of causes through its annual Easter Egg Raffle.

The Senior School students from Langley Templeton are encouraged to bring in Easter eggs, or other forms of chocolatey goodness, to form the prizes for this raffle. The Year 12 students collect and arrange the prizes, as well as sell raffle tickets to students, parents, and friends of the School. The raffle is drawn at the end of Term 1 by our Principal, Michelle Carroll, with all the proceeds of the raffle going to the Good Friday Appeal. This annual charity event is a mainstay of the Senior School and has some fond memories for the Langley Templeton Captains.

Olivia Cunningham writes:

“Rosie and I are super excited and honoured to be organising the 2022 Langley Easter Raffle, alongside the Langley Community Service Captains, Lucia, and Annabelle, this year. We have already seen an overwhelming amount of excitement from all Langley girls about the event. Langley has supported The Good Friday Appeal for as long as I can remember. I know it means a lot to all the girls, so we are excited to be supporting it again in 2022.

“The Good Friday Appeal is a charity that raises money to enable The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne to provide world-class care for children. We will be collecting funds towards the Appeal by selling raffle tickets to students and teachers for the rest of term. The tickets put them in the running to win Easter egg hampers, which always create a lot of excitement on the day the raffle is drawn. The Easter eggs in the hamper have been generously donated by all the girls in Langley Templeton. We hope the event this year will be as successful as it has been in the past, and will contribute to making a difference for children in Victoria and nationally.”

Our other Langley Templeton Co-captain, Olivia (Rosie) Bogdan, also remembers the raffle fondly. She recalls that:

“One of my most distinct memories of Year 7 was when Pip Shergold won the Easter egg raffle. It might have been because she was gluten-free, so I got to eat the eggs that contained gluten, but ever since that day I have been determined to win the raffle. Yet, four years have passed and I still have not won the Easter egg hamper. Despite still waiting for my name to be called out from the hat, I think the real reason why I love the raffle so much is that it acts as a token of Langley’s hard work.

“That every Easter egg has been donated by every member of our House. Even though Langley is a small House, we are able to produce the biggest community service event of the year. So, this year Liv and I aim to sustain this tradition of the Good Friday Raffle to show the generosity of the girls in Langley to support such a good cause.”

It is hoped that this year’s raffle will continue in this tradition. To help with this cause the School community is asked to contribute in whatever way they can, be it buying prizes, buying tickets or donating to the Good Friday Appeal directly here. I am sure I can speak on behalf of all the Langley Templeton students in thanking you in advance for any support offered.
