From the Head of Year 9 – Essential Care for Women in Need

Throughout Term 4, the Year 9 Cohort have been focussing on the School Value, Gratitude. Within this focus is our Community Service Project, raising much needed funds for Women’s House at the Sacred Heart Mission in St Kilda.

Over the past month the girls have been collecting donations for this Project, which will form gift boxes for women in need at Christmas time.

This Community Service Project was something the girls felt strongly about, and wanted to support. The Project has been entirely student-driven, with the girls developing promotional posters, writing letters and speaking at School assemblies to garner support for their cause.

Last week, the girls held their final fundraiser, a Touch of Red Free Dress Day, for a gold coin donation, or an item for the gift boxes. Through the generosity of our School community and the hard work of our Year 9 Cohort we have enough items to fill 80 gift boxes. From the $512.50 raised during the Free Dress Day, the girls are aiming to create 30 additional gift boxes. An incredible achievement!

This week the girls have spent time carefully preparing the gift boxes for presentation to Sacred Heart Mission. Included in the gift boxes are essential care items including shampoo, conditioner and face masks, as well as luxury items such as chocolate, body lotions, make-up and clothing.

Women’s House is a supportive engagement hub, tailored to help women who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.
