ELC Update – Exploring opportunities

It has been wonderful to see the children’s learning over the past week as they have engaged in a range of experiences remotely.

The children in Waratah Room have been exploring a range of wellbeing experiences including an exercise in ‘Rainbow Breathing’ to promote stillness and calmness. The ‘Kindness Project’ has also continued as the children have discussed and explored what kindness means and how it can be enacted. The children have been encouraged to create wooden spoon people to add to the little villages of ‘Spoonville’ popping up in suburbs around Melbourne.

Currently, the children in Blue Gum Room are exploring the concept of feelings and emotions. They have also participated in several science experiments, the most recent in relation to the concepts of floating and sinking. Additionally, as part of ‘Book Week’ celebrations, the children have enjoyed dressing up and sharing their favourite book.

Our Wattle Room learners have been busily engaged in an inquiry into the lifecycles of various animals. This led to an opportunity to participate in an online webinar with Zoos Victoria called ‘Nature Play and the Wurundjeri Way’. The children have also been learning about Aboriginal symbols and creating collages of the sun. Their investigation into the city buildings also continues.

The Banksia Room children have been involved in a range of STEM learning opportunities. They have particularly enjoyed designing and constructing marble runs. Their ongoing investigations into Australian animals and plants led to a virtual excursion with Zoos Victoria. This offered opportunities for learning about the unique features and needs of various animal species, and how to care for and respect animals.

There are a range of opportunities on offer in the ELC Learn@Home Program that children and families are encouraged to access. Please refer to your child’s classroom portal page for the selection of experiences on offer.

Celebrating Father’s Day

We wish all of the Dads in the ELC a wonderful Father’s Day for this coming Sunday. The children have been excitedly discussing and preparing for this day during their Learn@Home Program this week. We hope you enjoy the special time you have to spend together as a family on Sunday.
