Senior School House Athletics Report

On Wednesday 4 March the girls of St Catherine’s School headed to Duncan McKinnon Reserve to contest the annual House Athletics Carnival. It was a warm and overcast day, that was optimal for maximum participation and outstanding performances. The House Athletics Cup was on the line as the girls passionately contested each of the events to gain precious points for their house.

Aside from the traditional Athletics events, the girls also participated in some novelty games; such as Tunnel Ball and a very competitive rendition of the ‘Egg and Spoon’ race. Additional points were awarded during the ‘House Chants’ segment, as the girls displayed their pride for their respective houses with choreographed dances and songs that echoed loudly throughout the grandstands.

Some stand out performances include; Rosie Rush from Year 7 who led the way for Davis House with victories in the 100m, 200m and 400m. Beaulieu Blair’s Audrey Kyriakou (Year 9) completed the ‘Carl Lewis Triple’ with wins in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump. Emma Froomes (Year 10 – Beaulieu Blair) and Megan Chang (Year 8 – Beaulieu Blair) were awe-inspiring in the High Jump with clearances of 1.45m and 1.30m respectively. Olivia Nigido-Scott (Year 10 – Langley Templeton) was the Queen of throws, hurling the Shot Put – 12.12m and the Discus – 29.22m. Bronte Cullen (Year 10 – Holmes Kilbride) launched herself to a massive 4.72m in the Year 10 Long Jump event. Matisse Stafford (Year 9 – Holmes Kilbride) completed the 400m/800m double, with wins in both events, as well as winning Shot Put. Beaulieu Blair took out the Year 7 and Year 8 4x100m relays, and Holmes Kilbride were strong in the Senior Relays with wins in Year 10 and Year 11.

The leader board was constantly shuffling throughout the day as the various track and field events were heatedly contested, however it was Holmes-Kilbride that were victorious at the conclusion of the event.

Holmes Kilbride – 1761 points

Langley Templeton – 1641 points

Beaulieu Blair – 1592 points

Davis – 1580 points

As is tradition, the top 8 girls in the 100m for Year 7 and Years 8-12 contested the ‘Junior Flyer’ and ‘Blue Ribbon’ 100m race. The ‘Junior Flyer’ event was won by Rosie Rush from Davis house in a time of 15.90 seconds and the ‘Blue Ribbon’ event was won by Lucia Tabbagh from Langley-Templeton in 13.83 seconds.

It was excellent to see such a large level of participation from all of the girls, as well as some impressive athletic performances. A massive thank you to all Staff and House Leaders for their contributions and ensuring the day went smoothly.
