Junior School Library

As the new teacher librarian in the Junior School, I am very excited to join the team at St Catherine’s promoting literature and introducing new research and learning programs. I have been teaching for over twenty years specialising in planning and implementing literacy programs from Years Prep-12.

We have had a busy start to the year in the Junior School library and the arrival of many new picture books, novels and new series. Our circulation records confirm that more than 1000 books are being borrowed each week which averages to more than three per student. Many thanks to the Library Captains Ava Ward and Alice Sutton who have been an incredible support with the re-shelving and organisation of displays.

From 2-5 March we celebrated International Women’s Week. The younger students enjoyed reading and sharing books written by Australian women writers, including Mem Fox, Davina Bell and Caz Goodwin. In Years 3-6 we dissected the theme “An equal world is an enabled world” and researched women who are helping to forge a gender equal world and celebrating their achievements.

In Term 2, 25-29 May is Literacy and Information Week and we hope to have many exciting visitors and activities planned.

I will provide more information in the coming weeks. In the meantime, of course, keep reading!!
