Rising Sports Stars
The year has kicked off with several St Catherine’s students recognised for their hard work, determination and resilience on the sports field.
Year 9 student Matisse Stafford was one of only seven to be selected in the Under 16 Team who will be representing Australia in the Whistler Cup International Race Festival held 15-19 April 2020 in Whistler, Canada. The event will provide a great opportunity for Matisse to work with high performance coaches and gain international experience at a world renowned competition.
Also in Year 9, Samantha Love and Lucy Dunlop have been selected to represent Victoria in the Under 15 Team that will play in the National Hockey Championships in Bathurst. The girls will train with the Victorian squad twice a week in the lead up to the tournament on 17–23 April 2020.
Year 10 student Olivia Nigido-Scott has been profiled on the World Athletics (previously known as the International Association of Athletics Federations) website. This sees her results being tracked at an international level, including her silver medal in the Under 20 discus and bronze medal in the Under 18 hammer throw at the ACT Track and Field Championships in January. Olivia also won gold in the Little Athletics Under 16 Shot Put and Discus, breaking her region’s record in both events.
We congratulate these students on their outstanding achievements and wish them all the best for their upcoming competitions.
