Throughout Term 3, the children in the Wattle Room have been exploring the concept of a city, what a city has and what a city needs. One aspect of what a city has that the children discovered was bridges. Hence, the educators thought to provide the children with the language of wire to explore bridges.

The children in the Wattle Room explored bridges using the language of wire.

This was a particularly challenging experience for the children, being able to manipulate the wire and connect pieces of wire together required persistence. At times, the educators made themselves available to scaffold their learning, whilst on other occasions the educators encouraged the children to assist each other.

The children assist each other to manipulate the wire to create their bridges.

The educators also encouraged the children to revisit their wire bridge and add more to it in order to make it more stable. It is amazing what the children have created, being very creative as well as committed to the learning experience. Not only were the children learning about bridges, they were also further developing their fine motor skills and dexterity in their fingers.
