The children experienced the joy of a live puppet show at the Early Learning Centre towards the end of Term 2. This inspired the Blue Gum Room children to create their own hand puppets in the classroom. Several weeks later, the children continue to show interest in creating puppets, some children wishing to create more than one. Educators have provided children with an array of materials to create their puppet and, at the same time, be guided by the children’s individual thoughts, ideas and interests.

The Blue Gum Room children have enjoyed creating their own hand puppets.

“I made an alien. He lives in space. Aliens can have any amount of eyes that you want.” – Leah H.
“I made a Stegosaurus puppet. He eats lots of plants and drinks lots of water. He roars so loud! I used a sock to make my puppet.” – Everleigh.

The children have used a variety of materials to create their puppets.

Our aim moving forward is for the children to create their very own puppet show. Puppetry is a wonderful experience to promote the children’s imagination and creativity. Taking on a puppet character and bringing it to life teaches children to construct messages with purpose and confidence. Puppets help children express their ideas and feelings in a playful way, therefore developing their emotional development and language skills.
