Big Start to GSV Weekly Sport!

Term 2 GSV Weekly Sport has kicked off in great fashion with St Catherine’s recording some big wins against traditional rival Lauriston.

The AFL season commenced with St Catherine’s and Lauriston playing off in the second annual Huntingtower Heyington Shield. The game was played in great spirits, in front of a large crowd at Scotch College. St Catherine’s came away with a 3.8.26 to 0.3.3 victory to earn the shield for the second year running. Congratulations to Annelise Cody (Year 12) who was judged as the best player on the field.

St Catherine’s and Lauriston played off in the second annual Huntingtower Heyington Shield.

Following on from their success in the AFL, our Senior Netball teams travelled to Lauriston for their Round 1 match. The St Catherine’s A team, who is coached by the School’s Strategic Marketing and Engagement Manager (and Netball guru) Kerrie Mussert, held a narrow lead throughout their match and rebounded several challenges from Lauriston to secure an exciting 24-20 win. Likewise, the C team were victorious, while our B team fought out a nail biting draw.

Next week will see St Catherine’s teams in all divisions of Hockey and Netball playing matches, as well as our Senior Water Polo and AFL teams continuing their seasons.

Best of luck to these students and GO ST CATH’S!

Mr Nick Racina, Assistant Head of Sport and Head of GSV Weekly Sport
