The Smells and Sounds of the New Season

The children in the Waratah Room create their own blossom trees using sticks and tissue paper.

As the season changes from winter to spring, the children observe the different smells and sounds. They decided to create their own blossom trees using sticks and tissue paper after noticing the blossoms growing on the trees in the streets, parks and School garden. Their beautiful trees fill the Waratah Room with colour and life.

The children asked if they could plant seeds in spring because they would like to watch them grow like the blossoms in the streets.

Myfe: “We will need some dirt and water.”

Arlo: “And we need the seeds. Seeds like to be by the window.”

Arya: “Yes, so they get some sunshine.”

The seeds have sparked a lot of interest in and discussion about growth, and how to keep things alive and healthy.

Arlo: “When the seeds grow too big they need to be in the garden. Our snow peas have been thriving in our garden since we transferred them from the little pots in our room.”
