GSV Soccer

GSV Weekly Soccer has been underway throughout the term, with good numbers of St Catherine’s students braving the cold to work on their skills at morning training sessions.

Having built upon our coaching partnership with the South Melbourne Football Club that started in 2017, our Junior, Intermediate and Senior Soccer teams have enjoyed access to excellent coaching and teaching. Franz Weimper and Peter Xynas are highly accredited coaches with experience on the international stage. They have provided our students with outstanding tutelage around the structure and strategy of soccer, while gaining significant improvements in the skills of the game.

St Catherine’s students receive coaching tips from Franz Weimper.

With few students that regularly play the game outside of school, the season got off to a slow start. Thanks to students’ outstanding commitment to learn and improve, as well as the expertise of our coaches, all teams have tasted success as the season has progressed. A highlight was our Junior A Team taking the challenge right up to the undefeated and highly talented Star of the Sea team. A shot that hit the post and one that just went wide of the goal saw St Catherine’s narrowly defeated, however, was a clear indication of the progress and learning made.

We wish the teams the best of luck for their remaining matches.
