Celebrating Mother’s Day

The children in the Early Learning Centre were delighted to host their Mums for very special Mother’s Day celebrations this week. Each class held their own celebration to mark this special occasion. Much discussion, planning and preparation has gone into these events as the children discussed arrangements, planned details for the morning and then prepared cards, gifts and food for the morning tea.

Excitement and love could be felt in each classroom as the children enjoyed sharing this special time with their Mums. The celebrations commenced with the sharing of a delicious morning tea.  The children then acknowledged their Mums with beautifully prepared cards and gifts. Time was also spent indulging their Mums with stories, singing and a little pampering. This is always a highlight of the year for the children and their Mums, a time that creates wonderful memories.

We wish all of the Early Learning Centre Mums a wonderful Mother’s Day with your families this Sunday.

Parent Participation

Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in many aspects of the Early Learning Centre programs. Each class has a parent roster where you are welcome to write your name down for a suitable morning to spend time assisting in the classroom. This is a great way to learn more about what is happening in the program and also to assist with various inquiries and projects.

We also seek parent assistance to help with our weekly Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP).  Please write your name on the PMP roster for a suitable date if you are able to help out.

Connections with Nature

The children in the Waratah Room have displayed a strong affinity with nature. This can be frequently observed when we witness the children hunting for bugs and insects in the plants and under logs in the playground. They also enjoy collecting items from nature such as seed pods, pine cones, sticks and autumn leaves, and adding these to their play.

This interest has provided the provocation for much of the children’s current work and learning. The children have been using the clay and natural materials to create three-dimensional sculptures. They have also been looking closely at the autumn leaves falling from the trees, examining their colour shape and close detail using the digital microscope. The children have drawn and painted these observations. We have also begun to discuss seeds, plants and growth and the children have engaged in a gardening experience where they have planted succulents. In the coming weeks, the children will participate in an incursion with an expert from the Sage Garden where they will learn more about seeds, plants and growth. It is certainly an exciting time for learning in the Waratah Room as the children make connections with nature and the world around them.
