Senior School Sport: Interschools Snowsports Success
Interschools Snowsports Success
Thank you to all the students and families that participated in the 2017 Victorian Interschool Snowsports. It was such an exciting couple of days, with outstanding results achieved by our St Catherine’s students. Off the back of this outstanding effort I am pleased to announce St Catherine’s Senior School are once again Victorian Interschools Champions, finishing first overall on 196 points, ahead of Melbourne Girls’ Grammar 154 points and Methodist Ladies’ College 141 points.
Off the back of St Catherine’s team success, there were many individual and divisional team successes. In the Div 1, Snowsports Co-Captain Arabella Houghton (Year 12) lead the way placing inside the top 10 in the Alpine, Skier X, Moguls and Slopestyle events. Arabella, along with her team of Willow Burrell (Year 11), Ella Lansell (Year 11) and Sarah Steven (Year 11) partnered to finish 2nd overall in the premier Alpine teams race.
In Division 2, it was a case of near misses, as Melbourne Girls’ Grammar narrowly beat our team of Annelise Cody (Year 10), Amelia Maisano (Year 10) and Celia Cody (Year 10) for the win in Alpine and Skier X events. This team is now even more hungry to get one back on their archrivals at the Nationals.
Division 3 proved to be our most competitive age group, with the girls as a group, performing extremely well. Amelia Jones (Year 7) showed her class as she won the Alpine and Skier X events. While, Catherine Chen (Year 7) was equally as impressive as she displayed outstanding skill finishing first overall in the moguls event. Jessica Yang (Year 8) also performed extremely well finishing third overall in the Snowboarder X. Our key to success came from the Division 3 team results, where St Catherine’s finished on the podium in all event categories.
I congratulate all the students involved in this success and thank Mrs Skye Stansfield and Mrs Pauline van der Poel for their hard work in managing this Senior School team across the Championships. We now look ahead to the Australian Championships and wish our team every success.
