Ds: DAV Debating Round 2/ Mooting news

There were smiles all round as the Senior Debating teams experienced their most successful Round of Debating ever: 9 out of our 10 teams won their Round 2 debates. Challenging topics included, ‘That we should abolish the ATAR system of university entrance’ (A Grade) and ‘That we regret the rise of the sharing economy’ (such as Airbnb, B Grade). Our D Grade team worked hard to experience their first taste of success by debating the issue ‘That we should ban children from competing in professional sport’ while B Grade, Team 1 and all three of our C Grade teams, remain undefeated. Strong individual performances continued to garner a high number of Best Speakers in Round 2: Lucy Glover, Demi Avdalis, Annabelle Motteram, Adrianna Chai, Hope Kudelka and Flynn O’Brien. Round 1 Best Speakers were Georgie Sitch, Lucy Tanner, Demi Markakis, Charlotte Sinclair, Emily Sutherland, Hope Kudelka and Adrianna Chai.

Meanwhile, two teams of Year 11 students have begun training for the Bond University High School Mooting competition, which will take place at Bond University this year. Arguing for the Appellant, Team 1 (Demi Markakis, Pia Graham and Isabel Gray) and Team 2 (Isabelle Gough, Alexandra Thoms and Isabelle Binsted) have been busy learning about Contract Law as they prepare for their roles as Senior and Junior Counsel, and Solicitor, ably trained by Nakita Wilson (School Captain ’13) whose experience in Mooting and Law are proving invaluable. We wish all the girls the very best of luck in the competition on May 11.
