Term 4 begins!

We warmly welcome all Campbell House families back to the Early Learning Centre after the Term 3 break. We trust the holidays were interesting and relaxing for all our community members and that Term 4 will see all our learners full of energy and eager to share, play, create, imagine and learn together.

The final term for the year is always a very busy one, filled with lots of learning. This term also sees the culmination and celebration of so many shared individual projects. Preparation, transition and orientations into the next level of schooling are also a major feature of Term 4 in Campbell House.

2015 has been a very happy, busy year so far and we continue to be amazed and pleased with the progress of each individual learner in every way. However, we are astonished at how quickly the year is flying by! We thank all our parents for their support and partnership with us in what is an important journey towards future, more formal education for the children. It is amazing that so many of our young learners are in their final days of ELC and preparing to make the journey into formal schooling at prep level!

Learning and Growing

The five outcomes set by the Early Years Learning framework (National Curriculum for Early Learning in Australia) continue to be the anchor points for all that is undertaken in the Campbell House setting. The outcomes feature prominently in all the careful and detailed programming undertaken by the staff in each classroom. Through the use of the Reggio Emilia approach, our educators ensure young learners thoroughly enjoy their days in the ELC as they explore, wonder, imagine, create and importantly, solve problems. Independence is fostered in so many essential ways and we see the growth in this area in both personal approaches and in the learning. This is our absolute privilege on a daily basis. For parents information, we include the five learning outcomes below:

  • Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of Identity
  • Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  • Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners
  • Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

Outcome 1 together with the remaining outcomes will feature emphatically throughout Term 4. Outcome 1 demands that priority is given to allow every child to develop a strong and positive sense of identity and to continue their learning journey feeling safe, secure and supported. Endorsement for effort and celebration of individual as well as group efforts is always fostered in Campbell House. The development of autonomy, independence and resilience, and the need to interact with others with care, empathy and respect, are always pivotal to individual and group conversation and constantly role modelled by staff. Confidence in learning and contributing ideas, posing questions and hypothesising are instrumental ingredients required for further learning.

The joy of reconnecting and meeting up with old friends and generally ‘catching up’, was once again very evident in Campbell House again this week as our learners gathered together in the first week of Term 4. Snippets of this can be seen in our photos from the Banksia Room in today’s edition of The Blue Ribbon.

The ELC summer uniform must be worn during Term 4 when the weather is deemed warm enough by families. Parent Information Evening 2016

We are eagerly looking forward to meeting with parents of children who will be joining us in the 3YO ELC Program and continuing/commencing with us in the 4YO ELC Program in 2016. In preparation for our 2016 ELC classes we will be running a parent information evening.

Date: Tuesday 13 October
Time: 7.00pm – 8.00pm
Venue: Campbell House

Staff will meet and greet parents at this important event and will outline important details regarding our programs, activities and organisational details for 2016. It is so important children are assisted at home to feel secure and confident regarding learning in the Early Learning Centre.

Parents can assist with ensuring learner confidence by being well informed themselves and being knowledgeable about routines and practices. Children ask great questions!
