Term 4 Commences!

We warmly welcome all students back to School to what will be a very busy academic program in this, the final term of 2015. It is hard to imagine that the year is closing so quickly! The plans for the completion of all Year level work and beyond are many. Staff are very keen to commence quickly and efficiently into Term 4 and to maximise every School day. We especially welcome newcomers this term and know, from experience, students and staff will work together to ensure they feel comfortable and familiar with School routines as quickly as possible.

Punctuality

In order to effect a prompt start to learning in Barbreck, we remind families that School commences at 8.30am. Students settle and engage with learning from 8.30am (after arrival into classrooms commencing from 8.10am, when much of their personal belongings are organised and Schoolwork sorted in preparation for an effective start). For those students who arrive between 8.30am – 8.45am (due to sibling drop off or a sibling in the ELC), they are instructed to enter classrooms very quietly and quickly and not interrupt others. Attendance rolls are marked promptly. Latecomers must report to the Barbreck Office in order to avoid being marked ‘absent’.

Year 6 Celebration

Year 6 parents are reminded of our very special celebration to mark the end of Junior School for Year 6 students which will be held on:

Date: Thursday 3 December
Location: Barbreck Hall (and surrounds)
Time: 5.15pm–8.15pm

Year 6 students remain at School at 3.30pm in order to prepare for the evening. It is asked that students wear their summer uniform.

Reading, Learning and Loving It!

Across Barbreck there is a vast enthusiasm for reading. Recommendations to others about favourite authors and books are frequent as are discussions about current novels and characters. Year 2C recently put their ideas and thoughts about books into written words and we share some with our readers in this weeks The Blue Ribbon.

Books come in different shapes and sizes,
Books can take you to places you never dreamed of.
You can cuddle on the couch with them,
Books are lovely,
They can take you high into the sky,
They can put you in someone else’s life.
Books can tell of the moon, the stars and the sun.
Books are lovely.
Rachel Carton

Books can take us to a land of fantasy.
They can take us to places we have never dreamed of.
They can take us to wonderful places.
I love books Books can take us to the moon, stars and sun,
Books can take us on an adventure,
Books light up our world.
Books are amazing!
We read in our beds.
Books teach us anything.

Books are funny.
Books are the best.
I love books.
Olivia Nagel

Books can take us anywhere.
Books are fantastic friends.
Books tell us things we never knew.
Books are the best!
Books make things seem real.
Books can put us to sleep.
Books can take us on adventure.
Books can make us laugh.
I love books!

Term 4 Music Programs and Performance Opportunities

Throughout Term 4 in Junior School Music, all students will spend time preparing for the Annual Junior School Music Concert to be held on 26 November and the end of year Carol Service on 8 December.

These events will involve all Junior School students and we look forward to sharing the wide range of Music on offer in Barbreck with the St Catherine’s School community. Leading up to these two major events there are many additional opportunities for our Junior School students to perform. The following will feature soloists, ensembles and choral performances.

  • Weekly Junior School Assembly – most Tuesdays 8.45am–9.30am
  • Barbreck Recitals – Tuesday 27 October and Thursday 29 October.
  • Barbreck Recital – 17 November
  • Year 2 Strings Recital – 18 November
  • John Macrae performance – 18 November
  • Year 5 Band Recital – 19 November
  • Annual Junior School Music Concert – 26 November
  • John Macrae performance – 7 December
  • Junior School Carol Service – 8 December

Several Barbreck Recitals are offered each term and students are invited to perform at these events on the recommendation of their Music tutor. Some students may learn an instrument outside of School and performance opportunities can be sought by parent request through the Performing Arts Administrator, Mr Brad Lowry (up to two weeks prior to a recital) or myself for other performance options.

Students who learn at School will be given first preference in a Recital, however, we keep records across the year of who has performed and aim to give all girls several performance opportunities.

We look forward to sharing our Music with you in Term 4.
