News from Year 7: Camp Jungai

Last week, our Year 7 Cohort travelled to Camp Jungai where they engaged in activities such as raft building, kayaking, high ropes, and a cultural session with Aunty. These experiences offered our Year 7 girls a deeply enriching and diverse experience blending physical challenges with cultural learning nestled within the beautiful natural landscape of the Rubicon Valley in north-east Victoria.

Being together as a Year level during offsite experiential learning opportunities such as Camp Jungai offers many benefits for our girls extending beyond the classroom, including:

  • Fostering a strong sense of community and belonging;
  • Deepening connections with peers;
  • Enhancing collaboration and teamwork;
  • Creating a supportive environment; and
  • Students feeling comfortable in sharing ideas and helping each other succeed.

Additionally, spending time together as a Year level helps to break down social barriers, promoting inclusivity and understanding among students from diverse backgrounds. These shared experiences also contribute to a collective identity, boosting our School spirit and encouraging a positive, cohesive learning atmosphere.

Raft building and kayaking encouraged teamwork and communication as students worked together to construct and navigate their vessels, fostering problem-solving skills and a sense of accomplishment.

The high ropes activities pushed students to step out of their comfort zones, building confidence and resilience as they literally tackled new heights!

The cultural session with Aunty provided a unique dimension, providing our students with valuable insights into First Nations culture and traditions. This opportunity to connect with, and learn from, Aunty deepened our students’ appreciation for the land and its history. This experience fosters respect and cultural awareness extending beyond the classroom.

I am so grateful to have shared these memories with our Year 7 girls. Witnessing their kindness, calm, and connection throughout our time together, I am incredibly proud of all they accomplished. Well done Class of 2029 for embracing each challenge with grace and supporting one another every step of the way.
