ELC Update – Learning in the Digital Landscape

Learning in the Digital Landscape

The term has commenced in the Learn@Home program for our children in Campbell House.  The children have been excited to re-connect with their friends and educators online this week.

Our youngest learners in the Blue Gum Room have been observing and researching Spring flowers. They have been learning about the different varieties and names of flowers. They have also been collecting flowers and other natural materials to use for sorting and classification experiences in relation to colour, size and shape. The children have set up a science experiment by placing flowers in coloured dye and they will observe the colour changes to the flowers over time.

The children in the Waratah Room have been learning about the mathematical concept of estimation. The children have been invited to place objects such as buttons or bricks in a jar and then guess or estimate how many objects the jar contains. They have also been learning about the concepts of longer and shorter, and observing the growth of some butter beans.

Our older learners in the Wattle Room have been exploring the concept of light and shadow.  They have used model animals and puppets to create and draw shadows. These shadow drawings have then been used to compose and narrate a story. The children have also used their mathematical and engineering skills to design and build cubby houses. They have used nature items to learn about measurement and have been exploring rhyming words.

The Banksia Room children have been exploring mathematical concepts involving two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. The children have been walking around their neighbourhoods to look for various shapes in the buildings, signs and architecture around them. They have documented their discoveries by drawing, painting or photographing their shapes. The children have also been identifying shapes in nature and recording a tally of the various shapes they have identified.

We are very proud of the independence, resilience and adaptability that our Campbell House learners continue to demonstrate as they engage with the Learn@Home progam.
