In an exciting weekend on the slopes, Beaulieu Blair took out the 2017 St Catherine’s Senior School House Snowsports. In what has become a strong and proud tradition of the School over 140 students and their families made the trip up to Mt Buller to participate in some fun and friendly House rivalry.

There were some outstanding performances across the weekend, most notably in Mr Crebbin’s favourite event, the Cross Country Skiing. Despite the fog, rain and, at times ice, the St Catherine’s girls gave it their all. Zara Bongiorno (Year 7BB) and Madeleine Hooker (Year 7LT) proved their hard training over the school holidays had paid off as they recorded the fastest times of the day for the School, in both the classic and skate event. Amelia Jones (Year 7D) recorded the fastest Alpine time of the day as she displayed her skills to secure the win and some valuable points for Davis. Holmes Kilbride student, Annabel Sweetnam (Year 8 HK) scored the highest grading in the moguls to see her House score the most points in the event. However, it was in the Snowboard where Beaulieu Blair proved to be too strong, dominating the event with Claudia Coombe-Tennant (Year 7BB), Amelia Maisano Year 10BB) and Willow Burrell (Year 11BB) all taking out wins in their respective categories and ultimately securing the win for their House.

The House Snowsports Weekend was a great success. I would like to thank our St Catherine’s community for once again getting behind the event and making it such an enjoyable and important part of the school calendar. Thanks to our Snowsports Captains Arabella Houghton (Year 12BB) and Eve Alexidis (Year 12D) who gave a motivating speech at the social function, and we look forward to their continued leadership into the Interschools. In addition, the biggest thanks of all goes to our passionate Snowsports staff and Auxiliary who without their hard work and support an event such as this would not be possible. We now turn our attention to the Interschools and continued enjoyment and success of the St Catherine’s Snowsports program.
