Wellbeing goes to the top of the class

St Catherine’s School in Toorak, puts girls wellbeing first.

The Wellbeing program, weThrive:Wellbeing@StCatherine’s, provides an inspiring environment for and extends to boarding house has its own wellbeing theme: weShare.

“The boarding theme ‘weShare’ is wholeheartedly embraced by our boarders who proudly share their home, their stories and their world; enriching each other’s lives by making their own unique contribution to our thriving community,” director of boarding Sue Collister said.

Boarders call a National Trust-listed Victorian mansion, Illawara, home. Within its walls, the home is a safe and comfortable environment that provides boarders with the opportunity to form friendships with girls from around the world.

“At Illawara, the jigsaw puzzle sits at the centre of the lounge area,” Ms Collister said.

“Each term, the girls complete two large 1000-piece puzzles. Parents, boarding staff and visitors also enjoy trying to fit in a piece of the puzzle.”

As one Year 11 boarded said: “I love coming home and seeing the progress of the puzzle or doing my bit to fix the picture”.

The Boarding staff includes qualified nurses, teachers and speech pathologists.

Boarders are also encouraged to engage in mindfulness, which has been shown to improve memory and the regularity of stress response.
