Term 3 Sports Wrap

In Term 3, we relished the opportunity to get back on the athletics track, badminton court, soccer field and ski runs, for the first time since 2019.

GSV Soccer Junior A Runners Up

Our GSV Soccer Teams had great seasons, particularly our Junior A Team who won their zone and progressed to the GSV Finals. A 2-0 win against Lowther Hall saw them go through to compete in a tense 0-1 loss to Firbank in the Grand Final to finish GSV Runners-Up. Congratulations girls on a fantastic achievement. Our Intermediate and Senior Soccer Teams were competitive all season, both narrowly missing finals berths by one game.

On the athletics track, St Catherine’s competed in the Division 2 Championship Carnival and had 18 students qualify to compete at the GSV Finals Night. This saw the return of three gold medals, one silver and two bronze to place us ninth out of 24 schools in the medal tally.

Gold:

  • Olivia Nigido-Scott (Year 12 Shot Put & Discus)
  • Emma Peele (Year 8 High Jump)

Silver:

  • Lucia Tabbagh (Year 11 Long Jump)

Bronze:

  • Lily Taylor (Year 11 100m)
  • Lucia Tabbagh (Year 11 Triple Jump)

A special mention to Year 12 student and Track & Field Captain Olivia Nigido-Scott whose gold medal in the Shot Put and Discus meant she has claimed the gold in these events in every possible year since she was in Year 7!

Throughout Term 3, GSV have held trials for their representative teams, where the strongest players from across the 24 GSV Schools are provided the opportunity to compete against other sporting associations. Congratulations to Zenan (Amy) Chen (Year 10) who was selected in the GSV Tennis Team, and Lily McNeill and Georgia Stoupas (Year 12) who made the GSV Water Polo Team.

On the mountain, our Snowsports athletes showed they have not missed a beat with some phenomenal results throughout the season. Our Primary Team took out both the Victorian AND Australian Interschools Championships and our Senior Team took out the Victorian Interschools Championships and finished an incredible second at the Nationals in Perisher. Congratulations to all members of our Snowsports Teams. To read a full report from Nationals click here.

We look ahead to Term 4, with training for GSV Cricket, Basketball and Junior Water Polo already underway. Well done to all students who have represented the School during Term 3 Sport and we look forward to celebrating our student athletes and the upcoming Celebration of Sport Breakfast.
