Class of ’23: Leanne Hiew

As their time as students enters the final chapter, a number of our Class of 2023 reflect on their Life at St Catherine’s.

Life at St Catherine’s: Leanne Hiew
Class of 2023

What were your favourite subjects?

My favourite subject was Global Politics, which I took as one of my accelerated subjects in Year 11. I chose politics not knowing what I wanted to study after Year 12 and the challenges of the subject definitely intimidated me at first, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It developed my interest in other social sciences and helped me solidify the path I want to pursue post-school. With Mr Gilby’s incredible guidance throughout the whole year, I learned so many new things about the subject that will remain invaluable for my further studies.

What do you plan to study post School?
I plan to study Political/Social Sciences, hopefully overseas.

In 2023, the Year 12 theme was ‘Conquer.’ What does this mean to you?
Personally, the 2023 theme ‘Conquer’ means to try everything you’ve been afraid of trying. I think Year 12 is a year filled with ups and downs, and the fact we only get to experience Year 12 once makes it even more daunting. Therefore, I think it’s important to step outside our comfort zones as it helped me find passions I was always too afraid to pursue and made me realise our goals and dreams aren’t out of reach.
