Life at St Catherine’s: Jo-Jo Patterson
Class of 2023

What have been the highlights of your time at St Catherine’s?
My highlights during my time at St Catherine’s have been all the performances and shows I have been a part of. It was amazing seeing the reception of each performance afterwards.

What co-curricular activities or clubs were you involved in? What did you learn from these?
I was involved in many different co-curricular activities throughout my years. Since Year 7, I participated in Music Ensembles, such as the Jorgensen Orchestra, and choirs. I also joined GSV Tennis and Badminton each year. From participating in these activities, I learned how important teamwork and communication are. It was so crucial to work together to reach our end goals.

What were your favourite subjects?
My favourite subjects changed drastically throughout each year. As of right now, my favourite subjects would have to be English and Physics. My peers in each class were amazing to work with.

Can you describe a significant academic achievement or project you’re proud of?
I’m proud of my series of photographs which I had produced for my Media SAT this year. I had worked hard taking photographs and editing them in preparation for the Art Show.

How do you handle challenges or setbacks in your academic pursuits?
I just tried to push through as much as possible, knowing that whatever challenges I had won’t last forever.

What do you plan to study post School?
I plan to study a double degree in Computer Science and Astrophysics.

Where do you hope to study?
Monash University.

How do you believe St Catherine’s and your teachers have helped you reach your goals?
I believe that my teachers have just generally supported me so much throughout my time at St Catherine’s. Whenever I needed anything, they were willing to help.

What skills or knowledge have you gained during your education that you believe will be valuable in your future career?
In almost every workplace communication and teamwork are needed. I have gained these skills during my time at St Catherine’s, being able to work with my teachers and peers alike.

In 2023, the Year 12 theme was ‘Conquer.’ What does this mean to you?
For me, I felt our theme ‘Conquer’ meant being able to continue and push through the hard times as much as possible.

What advice would you provide to future Year 12 students?
Don’t lose touch with your friends throughout the year. It may seem stressful with SACs and exams, and you may be tempted to block everyone out, however, maintaining those connections is crucial in not losing touch with everything going on around you.
