Class of 2022: Teacher Profile – Ms Asuko Okumura

Ms Asuko Okumura
VCE Specialty Subject: Japanese

What do you enjoy about teaching VCE subjects?

I enjoy observing students reaching the advanced level of Language competency, as I often taught them in Years7 and 8. Teaching them again in VCE allows me to fully appreciate the tremendous advances they have made.

I also enjoy working as part of a learning team, moving with students towards the same set goal.

What advice do you have for students preparing for VCE?

They need to refine their time management skills and implement an individualised, effective study routine. It is not possible to have a perfect time or lots of time for study. This is where a well-honed routine helps. Balancing study with rest and relaxation is also vital. A VCE student needs to retain a certain level of freshness and energy well into their exams. So, it is a judicious mix of work and play.

Do you have a final message for the Class of 2022?

I am grateful for the opportunity of working with them this year. They were a warm, friendly, and resilient group. Their attitude was positive and their application consistent. Their efforts before the VCE oral examination were incredible. They impressed me repeatedly with their academic commitment and self-discipline, which assures me that they have the strength to achieve anything they aspire to. I will truly miss them!
