Recognising the broad interests of our students St Catherine’s offers numerous clubs and special interest groups.
Students can participate in a wide range of special interest clubs including Debating and Public Speaking, Environment, Visual Arts, Design, Writing, Maths, Science and Drama and to provide students with the opportunity to pursue their passions.
St Catherine’s Art Club provides students the opportunity to expand and further develop their Art skills. Students have the opportunity to make stage props for School productions and work across numerous artistic platforms and students from different Year groups.
Utilising our on campus Observatory, St Catherine’s Astronomy Club meet once a fortnight to discuss the latest discoveries in Astronomy and Cosmology. Students develop practical skills as well as attending an Observatory Night at School and visiting public astronomy facilities including public lectures held at Swinburne University.
Led by the Drama Captain, Drama Club explores creative and collaborative communication through both scripted and improvised performance. It is open to all Years 7 and 12 students.
There are numerous opportunities for Drama Club members to perform to different audiences from playing the roles of quirky characters to comedy and improvisation.
Drama Club encourages a wonderful collaboration and building of relationships between girls from all Year levels in Senior School.
Students involved in our Design Club are provided real life opportunities to put in place the skills they learn in their Visual Communication Design classes. Working collaboratively with St Catherine’s Marketing department to create a number of posters and artworks to promote School events.
St Catherine’s is leading the way in Australian schools with its environmental program, initiatives and policies. The School is a Four Star Sustainable School and had received its School grounds and biodiversity ‘star’.
St Catherine’s School’s Environment Committee is made up of students, staff, parents and members of the School leadership team.
The Committees goals are to:
- integrate environmental behavioural practices through School lessons, infrastructure and policy
- educate the wider community through events and communications
- set specific targets for waste reduction, water and energy consumption
- increase biodiversity on the School campus
- build a student-driven environmental program.
Our Junior Joggers program is offered every Wednesday morning, departing the Junior School at 7.30am.
STEM in the Mornings
Held each morning during the School week (excluding Tuesday) for varying Year levels from Year 1 to Year 6 our STEM in the Mornings sessions are perfect for any students looking for an opportunity to share their enthusiasm for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Led by our Extension and Learning Support staff, STEM in the Mornings explores intriguing and challenging activities to extend thinking and challenge and excite our participants.
The St Catherine’s Writers Club involves students in Years 9 to 12 and has become a very popular club where our budding writers are involved in discussing and developing their creative writing. Many competitions are entered and students have the opportunity to listen to guest authors and become involved in a number of extension opportunities to further craft their writing skills.
Write on Wednesday
Available to Years 5 and 6 students our Write on Wednesday program explores a range of literacy activities designed to enhance grammar, punctuation, content and vocabulary.
Students share their writing within the sessions as well as discuss current authors and their motivations, have the opportunity to meet published authors and explore their own styles of writing.
