It has been fabulous to see everyone back at School. The girls have loved seeing their friends and getting involved in all of their much-loved Co-curricular activities. This week, four Barbreck students have provided updates on activities that have commenced for the term.

Chess Club

Chess Club is back, and we can finally meet in person again. Our Chess Teacher, Ross came into School and lots of kids attended. It was so much fun to finally be able to do Chess at School with real chessboards and pieces! We are looking forward to building our skills and playing plenty of games over the final few Chess Club sessions of the year!

Barbreck Strings

Barbreck Strings has finally been released from the chains of lockdown! Every Thursday in the auditorium, Mrs Cook teaches us how to play as an orchestra. We all enjoy playing the pieces, Mrs Cook has done a brilliant job choosing them. Barbreck Strings is an excellent place to practise your stringed instrument and Mrs Cook applies a lot of passion into her Junior Orchestra as well! All of us love playing in Barbreck Strings and invite everyone to consider joining!

Epstein Singers

We came to the end of the online series of Breakfast with Epstein with Epstein Singers restarting at School this week after a long time online. We gathered at the auditorium at 7:20am, warmed up with a few interesting exercises we learned during Learn@Home and revised two pieces we had been working on since the end of last year. It is very impressive to hear the alto and soprano parts together. I hadn’t listened to the two parts singing together for a long time.

After we were done with the old pieces, we listened to a Christmas carol, Once in Royal David’s City, and worked our way through the first verse. It was so lovely to see everyone and hear all the sweet voices again. Everyone did a great job on the first Epstein rehearsal back together. I really enjoyed it and I look forward to our future sessions learning Christmas carols.

All things Sport – Including Bike Education

It’s great to be back at School and getting involved in all the Sport again! I can tell that all the Years 5 and 6 girls are loving being back, moving around with their friends, and embracing the unforgettable moments that happen during Sport.

While being back I have thoroughly enjoyed just being in a team environment again, it has helped us regain the time that we lost together during the lockdown. I have really enjoyed playing “flags” and “House Netball”. I also loved looking around during Netball and seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces, as they were excited to be back and representing their Houses!

Another sport-related House event we have been working on has been House Aerobics. As a House Captain with my friend Cici, we have been working on picking a song and creating some moves for our House which we have really enjoyed!

The Aquatics Centre has also been filled with girls getting in some laps in our P.E time. I have personally loved this, as swimming around in the water and doing fun relays with my friends, makes my day.

Many of the Years 5 and 6 girls also love their bike riding! We have been enjoying doing our Bike Education sessions with Mr Crebbin and Mrs De Nardis, learning about gears, chains, wheels, bike control and bike safety.

Overall, the Years 5 and 6 girls have loved being back at School and are loving every moment they get with their P.E teachers and their friends.
