Rowing – Student Reflection

Rowing Co-Captain, Chloe Cooper shares with us her reflections of a successful Rowing season.

The HOSG girl’s regatta was held on the Barwon river in March of 2021. It was a highlight for all of the squad to be together and race our hardest. After a shaky start to the season, with online ergs, and strength and conditioning over MS Teams, we were finally able to get on the water.

Not only was this the first HOSG for our Juniors but also for the Inters who missed out last year due to COVID-19. The energy was electric at our accommodation because we were on the verge of making history. The early mornings and late afternoons were all in preparation for this one weekend.

Across the whole weekend there was no doubt that everyone tried their hardest and were rewarded for all their efforts. This culminated in the first and second eight winning their respective divisions for the first time in the School’s history.

Having crossed the line exhausted, the feeling was instantly replaced with a sense of pride, knowing that we had fulfilled so many past St Catherine’s dreams. As Sarah fell back into my arms immediately after the race, I couldn’t be more thankful for signing up to Rowing all those years ago.

The trials and tribulations that we experienced together have made us such resilient, fearless girls!
