Year 10 Update – full of enthusiasm and excitement

The Year 10s began the School year full of enthusiasm and excitement to experience the change of moving into the Senior School. With a great deal of anticipation, they were also hopeful of actually being able to enjoy being on campus among their cohort of friends this year.

Although, the students soon realised the need to adjust to the increased demands of the academic program, they embraced the introduction of the ITLs and enjoyed the option of having subjects available for them, according to their interests. These choices will more than likely be different again for many students throughout Semester 2. However, the cohort are looking forward to these electives as it will prepare them for the narrowing down of the subject choices for Year 11.

Added to the academic program is the variety of co-curricular activities that are available to all students. These activities create a balance in their lives, often an outlet or a change from the intensity of their studies.

In Year 10 we have additionally experienced a number of Level Time sessions covering a number of areas. So far this term we have looked at:

  • Goal setting
  • Organisational strategies
  • VCE program – subject selections, ATAR and Study Scores, VTAC website
  • Resume writing, cover letters, job applications and participation in a mock group interview
  • SRC nominations, speeches and selections
  • Involvement in the student led International Women’s Day Assembly

Even though I am new to being a Head of Year 10, the students have warmly welcomed me and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and learning how I can best support their individual needs.

It is hard to believe we are halfway through Term 1. At this stage of the term the number of assessments begins to increase. Many students are looking at ways to improve their organisation in order to feel that they are able to cope with the demands as well as feel confident completing an assessment task. The dedicated staff we have at St Catherine’s are here to assist, support and encourage the students in achieving the goals that they have set for themselves.

I look forward to the second half of Term 1 and all that it brings to this wonderful and amazing group of St Catherine’s students.
