ELC – Welcome back to Campbell House

It has been wonderful to observe the sights and sounds of happy chatter and smiling faces filling the Early Learning Centre this week as the children returned from an extended period of learning from home. The children were certainly eager to re-connect with their peers and the program. At a time when the children’s lives have been restricted, the ELC provides a familiar haven to learn, socialise, be in the moment and enjoy the joys of childhood.

Our focus as Educators for this first week of term has been to support the children to resume their usual routine in the educational setting. This involves re-connecting with the classroom program and current interests and inquiries. It also involves re-connecting with peers and educators to re-establish these connections and relationships after the break. The children also need to re-familiarise themselves with classroom routines and expectations as they adjust to being back in this group learning environment.

We have an exciting term of learning planned for the children. There are many interesting inquiries happening in each classroom and many more will evolve as the children’s natural wonderings lead to further discussion and learning. Most importantly, the programs will be focused on developing group learning skills such as independent thinking, problem solving, listening, following instructions, independence, self-organisation, resilience and communication as these are some of the many important attributes for successful functioning in the group learning environment.

We have resumed our full complement of specialist classes onsite this term. The specialist teachers will be implementing these sessions on the following days:

Monday Physical Education with Mrs Jenny De Nardis
Tuesday Library with Ms Cindy Requin
Wednesday French with Monsieur Andrew Gold (4-year-old classes only)
Thursday Music sessions with Kate Phillips

Due to the risk-minimisation strategies that we are required to implement at this current time, there has to be some modifications to the equipment used and experiences offered in Physical Education and Music sessions.

We look forward to an exciting term of learning and discovery in Campbell House.
