Year 5 – Excited to be back at school

After five weeks of remote learning this term, the Year 5 students are excited to be back at school and seeing each other without a screen. Although remote learning can never replace the face-to-face learning of a school, the Learn@Home environment has provided many opportunity for the girls to participate in activities we don’t often get to experience at school.

Some highlights have been Friday morning cooking of ANZAC biscuits and blueberry muffins, dancing with Miss Wootton, and of course meeting all the pets.

As we settle back into school, it is important to reflect on the Learn@Home experience and the benefits gained from it. The need for independence and the ability to problem solve has never been greater for the Year 5 students. They have navigated their way around the portal and learned the various functions of MS Teams without always having their teacher there to guide them. They have had to maintain track of the time to ensure they were joining different Teams for lessons at the correct time, something a teacher would always be there to guide them with.

Submitting tasks correctly and on time, managing different learning platforms and keeping up with their learning for different subjects are some of the tasks we have asked of the girls. And they have managed it seamlessly.

These are some student perspectives of Learn@Home

“I think home learning is okay. But in my opinion, real school is much better. You can play with your friends and work together. Of course, it is an opportunity to have the chance to know what it is like for the children who have to do it for their whole schooling.” Olivia Grasso 5FW

“I have loved online school. There were some difficulties but it was still fun.” Nina Portnoy 5FW
