ELC – A Celebration of Learning at Home

As the ELC Learn@Home Program draws to a close and we transition back to classroom programs, it is timely to reflect on the wonderful learning that has occurred over the past six weeks.

In really uncertain times, we were required to re-invent our ELC programs in a digital landscape. A range of in-home program offerings were provided to our ELC children via our portal pages, project books and learning packs. The children have engaged in home-based inquiries and research in relation to identity, family, hospitals, the brain, lifecycles, friendship, love and the solar system. They have enjoyed a range of art-based experiences, cooking, yoga and meditation, sewing and weaving, clay sculpture and some fascinating science experiments.

Microsoft Teams became a new mode of communication for the children as they learnt how to use this platform. They quickly adapted to the role of speaker, presenter or listener as they discussed and shared their learning at home. Questions, provocations and invitations set by Educators were embraced and shared by the children in their Teams meetings.

The beautiful Autumn sunshine invited the children to engage in outdoor learning. This has included many nature walks collecting natural materials which were later used for developing mathematical learning in relation to counting, sorting and classification. Outdoor obstacle courses were also created as the children engaged in physical activity. The children also planted seeds and observed their growth.

The success of the Learn@Home Program can be attributed to our parent’s commitment to facilitating and supporting their children with the various learning tasks and educational experiences. We thank you for embracing the Program and supporting your children with their learning.

The ELC educators must also be acknowledged for the outstanding commitment and adaptability they have demonstrated to provide incredibly rich learning opportunities for the children in this new domain.

One of the very important aspects of our ELC Programs that the children will have missed the most, is the opportunity for social interaction and collaborative learning with their friends. We look forward to welcoming the children back next week with the re-commencement of their classroom programs. Campbell House will once again be filled with the sounds of laughter and learning as the children re-connect with their peers and educators.

Procedures for Re-commencement of the ELC Classroom Programs

Please ensure that you have thoroughly read our ELC Parent Manual in regard to the return to school procedures and protocols ahead of your arrival on Monday morning.
