Mathematics Faculty Update

This year has seen a number of changes to the Mathematics staff and we are thrilled to welcome Mr Wei Wang, Ms Kirsten Wiley, Mr Andrew Delfinis and Mrs Kirrilly Schroeder to the faculty. Each of them has come with different skills and experiences and we have been delighted to see that they have settled into St Catherine’s quickly.

Mr Wang has come to us with a wealth of experience and a true passion for the subject. He has worked at both Lauriston and Melbourne Grammar and is an assessor for Specialist Mathematics Exam 2. His extensive knowledge of Mathematics has been evident in our discussions and in the way he has already been able to challenge and stimulate the learning of his students. At the same time, students have discovered that he is always willing to help them understand concepts outside of class time if needed.

Ms Wiley has worked at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Huntingtower School after moving to Melbourne from Queensland. She has vast experience teaching all levels of Mathematics from Year 7 through to Further Mathematics. Kirsten is one of the most organised people I have ever met and we have already used some of her ideas in the presentation of information.

Mr Delfinis has come to us from Box Hill Senior Secondary College where he has been the Years 7 to 10 Student Manager whilst also teaching Further and General Mathematics. His energy and enthusiasm is infectious and he has shown his passion for teaching through the discussions we have had.

Mrs Schroeder has started at St Catherine’s in a bit of a whirlwind and we are very pleased that she has agreed to join us. She has taught at Korowa Anglican Girls’ School but has had some years running a tutoring business while her children were young. During this time she has kept well abreast of the Mathematics curriculum through forming a network to share ideas. Her warm and vibrant personality will be appreciated by all of her students.

It looks to be a fantastic year for Mathematics at St Catherine’s School guided by the passion and expertise of all members of the Faculty.
