Update from the Head of Year 11

A Busy Start to Term 4

The Year 11 students are in the midst of a very busy and exciting Term 4. What better way to end the school year than with the House Arts Program. The Year 11s have been working steadily all year on their House Arts performance which will take place on the evening of Tuesday 11 December at 6.00pm. The hours of collaboration and dedication that have already taken place has been commendable and I know the students are looking forward to rehearsals beginning in December.

With the Year 12s immersed in their final examinations, the cohort have impressively stepped up as the new leaders of the School. They have now taken their place in the front rows of the School Hall during Assembly, they are participating in Assemblies by taking responsibility for readings and making announcements, and they have also taken over gate duty.

The Year 11s begin their Unit 2 exams on Monday 12 November, with many of the girls also completing their first Unit 3 and 4 examinations during November. The Headstart Program for the Year 11s will commence on Monday 26 November and this involves the girls beginning their Unit 3 subjects in preparation for 2019.

VCE Panel interviews will take place on Wednesday 5, Thursday 6, Friday 7 and Monday 10 December. This is an invaluable opportunity for each Year 11 student to meet with key VCE staff to ensure that their Year 12 academic program is suitable. Students will receive their meeting times shortly.

Youth Resilience Survey

The Year 11 students participated in the Youth Resilience Survey in Term 3. The results of this survey have now been received by the School and during this Term we will be creating focus groups to discuss and address some of the strengths and concerns that have arisen from the survey.

School Captains for 2019

Finally, I would like to introduce our two School Captains for 2019, Georgina Cottrill and Kavina Kalaichelvam. Our School Captains will be ably supported by Clementine Aston, Annelise Cody, Hope Kudelka and Emily Sutherland who will make up the Student Executive for 2019. I will introduce Clementine, Annelise, Hope and Emily in my next Blue Ribbon article.

Georgina is looking forward to her final year of schooling and spending time with the other Year 12 students. She is involved in Debating and Public Speaking, Dance and GSV Cricket. After finishing Year 12, Georgina is keen to pursue a degree in Law or Politics and enjoy some international travel with friends. She appreciates the effort of the teachers at St Catherine’s School and the extra hours they put in to assisting students prepare for assessments.

Kavina is involved in Debating, playing the trombone and participating in GSV sport. She also enjoys listening to Sam Smith. Kavina is not sure what she would like to do once leaving school but she hopes to work at the United Nations one day. Kavina appreciates all the co-curricular activities at St Catherine’s School that foster friendships throughout the year levels so that walking down the hallway or even to the canteen entails several conversations along the way.
