Taking Inspiration From Spring

Taking Inspiration From Spring

Spring is certainly now upon us and the seasonal changes in our gardens inspire opportunities for learning for the children in Campbell House.

“Nature has a great simplicity and therefore a great beauty.” – Richard Feynman

The children have recently been observing the trees and the flowers forming buds which are beginning to burst into bloom. The transformation of the trees from bareness in winter to signs of new growth in spring is a fascinating provocation for the children’s learning. The children have been using the magnifying glasses and the digital microscope to examine this growth and change in close detail. Their observations have been recorded through drawing, painting and collage experiences.

Nature walks around the School grounds provide the opportunity for further observation and discussion. The children have discovered the nearby wattle tree coming into flower and the bird life and insects hovering in other areas of the gardens.

Spring time also brings about an increase in the abundance of bugs and insects in our gardens. This is an exciting time for the children as they regularly discover interesting living creatures. These discoveries provide opportunities for research in books and on iPads to find out more about what type of insect it is, and information about its habitat, feeding and movement.

It is wonderful to observe the children’s learning and new discoveries in connection to the current seasonal changes.
