News from Year 7: Seeking Opportunities to Build Connections

Learning beyond the traditional classroom setting through Sport, Music, and camps provides invaluable opportunities for the holistic development of our students.
Throughout Term 1 and the first weeks of Term 2, our Year 7 girls have enjoyed exploring their personal capabilities, making, and strengthening friendships, and challenging themselves with new activities across our Co-curricular Programs.
Engaging in sport teaches teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, as young individuals learn to set goals and navigate both victories and setbacks.
Year 7 student, Olivia Bingham made the comment that Junior Tennis offered fun and connection, combining the excitement of the game with the camaraderie of bonding with others on the court from both Years 7 and 8.
Isabelle Byrne along with the other Junior Netballers displayed an innate competitive nature during their first round of Netball matches recently.
Music enhances creativity, improves academic skills through the understanding of rhythm and beat, and nurtures emotional intelligence by allowing students to express feelings in a structured way.
At the end of Term 1, our Year 7 Sherren Singers performed at the Easter Church Service with Ebony (Ebby) Elshaug and Saya Stokes leading the prayers for their Cohort. All the girls represented themselves and our Year level superbly during the Easter Service and throughout Term 1.

Camps, foster independence, leadership, and social skills, as the girls interact in diverse groups away from their familiar home environments. Alexandra Pitt was elated to share her experience of the Three Capes trip to Tasmania recounting that the opportunity to explore and connect with the land as they absorbed the views was a life-long memory for her.
Year 7 is about finding a club, team, ensemble, or class that celebrates our girls’ individual passions, challenges their learning, develops their current interests, and engages them within the wider community.
These co-curricular activities collectively support the cultivation of well-rounded individuals who are equipped with a broad set of life skills that are critical in both personal growth and future career success.
