Our sporting stars hit the ground running with a fantastic Term 1.

GSV Weekly Sports

It was our biggest Term 1 participation on record with over 150 students involved in Tennis and over 60 in Softball within the GSV Weekly Sport Competition.

St Catherine’s again proved to be one of the dominant schools in the Softball Competition with three out of our four teams progressing to the finals. Additionally, two Tennis teams also progressed to see an impressive five teams competing at the GSV Finals.

Our Dive Team competed in the Division 3 GSV Championships. A fantastic team effort saw St Cath’s finish first in the Senior and Junior Divisions, and first overall.

Grace Hoffmann (Year 7) was one of the first St Catherine’s divers to qualify for the GSV Finals Night in several years. Impressively, she was one of only three Year 7s in the field of 10 divers from the 24 GSV schools.

Our swimmers battled it out for the Division 2 Championship Trophy to finish in seventh place overall. The Years 9 and 10 swimmers were a standout on the day, comfortably winning their division.

Eighteen swimmers across 23 events qualified for the GSV Finals Night, which saw the return of two gold medals and three silver to finish in eighth spot on the medal tally.

Engagement Sports

Triathlon: Twenty-one students competed in the GSV Triathlon in Altona. Our Year 8 Team of Coco Lutz, Carla Martuccio and Charlotte Roe finished a brilliant third out of 72 Junior teams. Likewise, our Year 10 Team of Nell Peat, Violetta Capanni and Kari Prendergast finished an impressive fourth out of 58 entries. Overall, St Catherine’s finished ninth out of 24 schools on the final points tally.

Golf: Three St Catherine’s students competed in the annual GSV Golf event at Box Hill Golf Club. All players had an impressive day on the course, with Camilla Tulloch finishing in the top 10.

Athletics Camp

In the April school holidays, 25 students from Years 7 to 11 attended the inaugural Athletics Camp on the Gold Coast.

The Camp focused on a combination of long and short distance running, as well as strength and conditioning, and recovery techniques, all in preparation for the upcoming GSV Cross Country and Track & Field competitions.

The group stayed at the Gold Coast Performance Centre Training where they enjoyed team building and initiative games, night laser tag, an ‘Amazing Race’ based activity and an ice bath recovery session. They were also treated to a day on the water slides of Wet n Wild!

We look forward to getting into Term 2 Sports with Hockey, Netball, Water Polo, AFL, and Cross Country all on the agenda.
