Sing, Play, Create in Barbreck Music

Liana Lam and Annika Gill, 2022 Barbreck Music Captains

Barbreck has enjoyed singing, playing, and creating music this term.

The Epstein Singers, Langley, Heyington, Barbreck, and Year 6 Choirs have been learning new songs and rehearsing together on Thursdays. The five choirs are sounding good and are looking forward to performing these songs to the Junior School and parents next term.

There have been many opportunities to perform at School. Thank you to Avalon Pascoe, Yifei (Sophie) Wang, Chong I (Cheryl) Li, Junya Jiang, Charlotte Parfit, Sunny Xu, and Sienna Xu for sharing your music with us during Assembly on Friday. You have inspired many of your friends and teachers.

It has been lovely to sing and play together in ensembles/groups. Here are a few that run on a weekly basis during school hours:

  • Flute Ensemble
  • Petite Strings
  • Epstein Singers (auditioned)
  • Year 3 Stage Skills
  • Percussion Ensemble
  • Barbreck Strings
  • Barbreck String Trio (auditioned)
  • Ukelele Ensemble (new in Term 2)

The Barbreck Recital in Week 9 was a big success! The girls who performed showed exceptional talent, hard work, and musicianship. Congratulations to all students who performed last Thursday afternoon. Thank you to all parents who attended the Recital to support our young musicians. A big thank you to all instrumental teachers, Mrs Lisa Cook, Mr Saska Ayris, and Mr Nick Grunden, who stepped in to accompany a few of our violinists.

We welcome our 2022 Music Captains, Liana Lam (6C) and Annika Gill (6C). Annika and Liana are enthusiastic leaders who have stepped up to speak during Assembly and are looking forward to adding new events for students to participate in, such as a Barbreck Talent Show. The Captains will organise this event and run it on a special day during lunch in Term 2.

Here are a few reflections from Year 3SR and Year 4AT about Term 1:

I enjoy choir because you get to sing together.” – Elizabeth Switkowski 3SR

“What I enjoy is that we work in small groups and make different songs. We use a lot of new instruments and as we play them, we learn a lot about them.” – Catherine Barry 3SR.

“I really enjoyed composing soundscapes with my friends and learning how to play ‘Risha Rasha Rusha’ on the xylophone.” – Samara Grinsell 4AT

“I liked playing on all the different instruments and singing funny songs like Boom Chicka Boom.” – Elaine Li 4AT
