A Committed and Wholehearted Approach

As Term 3 comes to a close we remain focused on supporting our Year 12 students who enter their final phase of VCE exam preparations

VCE Exam Preparations

Over the course of the September break, our focus remains firmly with our Year 12 students who enter the final phase of their VCE Exam preparations. The Nicholas Library will remain open every day throughout the two weeks, providing a quiet place to study away from the distractions and lure of the family kitchen, television and siblings. A number of subject tutorials will also be held over the course of the break with trial exams commencing in the second week. I encourage the girls to strike a balance of enjoying a restful break, maintaining a healthy level of exercise and nutrition and developing an earnest study schedule.

Snowsports National Champions

Congratulations to a number of students who competed in the Snowsports program this year. Our girls were crowned the champion Senior Girls School and Junior Girls School at the Australian Interschool Snowsports Championship at Mt Buller last week. This was a phenomenal achievement for the girls, each competing with great determination with a fulfilling sense of team spirit, unified with their new pale blue uniforms. Particular congratulations must go to our individual medallist’s Amelia Maisano who placed first individually in the Division 3 Alpine event, Emma Kent who placed second in the XC Classic event and BoarderX event, Amelia Jones who placed first in the Alpine and SkierX event and third in the XC Classic event, Emily McAllister who placed second in the XC Classic Event and Julia Kent who placed third in the XC Classic event.

The Junior School won the Overall Primary Girls Division by an incredible 78 points and the Senior School won the Overall Senior Girls Division by 38 points. This was described by many as ‘punching well above our weight’. I do believe the success of the Snowsports team falls on the back of a strong running and fitness culture at St Catherine’s. The regular commitment to Junior Joggers, Cross Country and weekly Boot Camp sessions ensured the girls were fit, strong and fast going into the Snowsports season. Congratulations girls.

Interschool Gymnastics Competitions

Congratulations to both our Senior and Junior gymnastics teams achieving overall second place at the Gymnastics Victoria Interschool Gymnastics Competitions held over the past two weeks. St Catherine’s Gymnastics Coordinator, Mrs Cherie Johnstone, believes this year was certainly a great success with many girls very pleased with their performances.

A Pleasant Afternoon of Music

One of the students’ final chamber music concerts for Term 3 was held at the St John’s Hall last Sunday afternoon, providing an opportunity for students to gain performance opportunities and to put to the test their hours of musical practice. I thoroughly enjoyed the performances, particularly our very talented Year 12 student Alexandra Culliver who led and directed the Saxophone ensemble during the afternoon. Having already professionally recorded songs, Alexandra will be a talent to watch for in the coming years.

As the School Term draws to a close, I wish our St Catherine’s families a restful and relaxing holiday. All students can be justly proud of their achievements this Term, with many girls committing wholeheartedly to their study and co-curricular pursuits. The capacity of our girls to ‘juggle’ numerous activities never ceases to amaze me and I am convinced this can only be made possible with the extraordinary level of support and guidance of our highly committed St Catherine’s parents. I do hope the girls remember to show their appreciation for their parents support and love over the holidays – I shall remind them at Assembly today!
